An introduction to patternmaking for textiles.
Darts are wedge shapes in a pattern that are used to control fullness and to shape a garment to your body. On a bodice, for example, darts serve to shape the fabric around the curves of the bust. Learn what tools a pattern maker uses and learn how to adjust the darts on a bodice to change the shape of the garment. We will be working on quarter size pattern pieces.
Please bring pencil, eraser, and photos for inspiration, the price includes a kit you will get to keep.
We will be using Modern Pattern Design by Harriet Pepin as reference material. The book can be found here: https://web.archive.org/web/20060620122828/http://vintagesewing.info/1940s/42-mpd/mpd-toc-short.html
