Instructor: Richard Nault

Your instructor started taking pottery classes two years ago at Wichita Pottery, and has also taken fundamentals at WSU and advanced throwing at WSU. His experience has included making a multitude of goblets, candy dishes, teapots, plates, bowls, multiple piece vases, columns, reliquaries, and other types of complex pottery vessels. His artwork often includes combining hand building, sculpture, and throwing.

This is a basic level pottery class where the student will be expected to know how to throw a simple cylinder before coming to class. Having taken the beginning class at Make ICT or any other pottery educational center is appropriate.

The class will focus on how to make a two-part vessel, mainly, how to throw a stem, and either cylinder or bowl, to create a goblet or candy dish. The class will include skills on throwing a stem, throwing a bowl, how to put two thrown pieces together, trimming options, consideration for type of stem with bowl, drying time to consider, how to handle green-ware with stems, and some glazing considerations. Students must be at least 16 years of age.

Ages: 16 and up
