Tormach authorization is divided into three parts and costs $50 total. The intro course will help participants determine if they want to pursue the additional two courses to become authorized to run the machine. While not required, the shopbot class is highly recommended as a prerequisite course. Metal shop safety is a prerequisite. This class is geared toward adults and is not kid friendly. We hope to have an intro course at least once a month, more as we get more teachers trained and one on one courses as the need arises if participants wish to continue forward. 1. Intro to Tormach (this course) $10 2. One on One Class $40 3. Proficiency Exam (first free, $5 after) This intro course is divided into two sections, the first hour in a classroom setting followed by an additional hour with some demonstrations on the machine. It will help participants understand the abilities of the Tormach and some of the fundamental knowledge they will need to learn to operate the machine. After taking the intro course, participants will be able to decide if they wish to take the one on one class which will teach them basic operation of the machine and grants restricted access to run a practice part on the Tormach. When ready they can then take a proficiency exam which will authorize them to use the machine without restriction to the practice part. By then end of this course you should not expect to be a professional machinist. The main goal is to teach how to operate the Tormach in a way that will keep both you and the machine safe. About the Instructor: Jason Bailey I am very new to machining and gained interest when needing to make a part for a personal project. I have been working with Kurt and Carl to develop the training classes and have a great desire to get people trained to gain access to the machine. This is my first area to volunteer teaching a course and I look forward to learning along with you and sharing the things I have learned with you. Please feel free to give me feedback. We are also looking for more teachers, so for more experienced machinists please reach out if your are interested in helping. You may know much of what is covered in the classes, but it will be a good way for you to see the course structure if you decide to help teach. Required authorizations: Metalshop
