This class will provide an introduction to CNC machining using free software and the Shopbot CNC router. By the end of this class, you will have seen all the essential steps for designing and milling a simple 2D design starting from a SVG or DXF file. We will split our time between classroom instruction and the wood shop. In the classroom, we will quickly cover modeling of a simple 2D design (CAD) along with tool path generation (CAM) using Easel and Fusion 360 applications. In the woodshop, we will demonstrate how to mill a simple 2D design using LinuxCNC to control the Shopbot CNC router. At the end of the this class, students will have time to design and mill a simple 2D design on their own with assistance from the instructors. Required authorizations: Woodshop
