OpenSCAD is a very useful tool for 3D design and allows for easy customization of simple (or complex designs) and underlies things such as Thingiverse’s customizer tool. It’s a bit like programming 3D designs, which can be more useful than traditional modeling or CAD programs, but simple enough you can even run compatible programs on your phone. (Android phones at least.)
This class will cover syntax, basic operations, and how the language works. You will need a passable understanding of rotations, translations.
This particular class’ project will go through a practical example of creating a motor plate in OpenSCAD from drawings/dimensions taken from a physical object.
About the instructor: James Lancaster has been designing 3D things for a long time now, and OpenSCAD is one of his gotos for any mechanical designs. May of the designs can be found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/james_lan/about (Mostly the telescope ones that he thinks can be useful to others.)
